I think it's fairly safe to say that I love what we do...you know...the photography thing. We seriously have the greatest jobs in the world and I love sharing with anyone who is interested. Even those who are not interested. Our poor friends try to show interest in our business and I immediately bombard them with the littlest facts about the last wedding we photographed. If they are unfortunate enough to ask to see our images then they are stuck with an hour of me talking about the secret stories behind each and every single photo. I'm sure they can care less, but they sure do give a good laugh when I really get pumped up. They are good friends!
To me it's the stories that make the pictures so special. So, I thought I would start a new weekly addition to my blog that would feature some of my favorite stories of the past.
It was a hot August afternoon with temperatures around 95. We were in the upper loft of a farm house and desperate for some kind of cool air to grace our sticky skin. I kept thinking that I was sure to be sweating through my shirt and pondered just how embarrassing that would be when I had to stand in front of everyone during the ceremony. (It turned out to be okay. Eddie checked.) Anyway, Jessica (the bride) had wondered over to the window to take a look at what was happening outside. It was a good way to take her mind off the heat and think about something else. There she stood with her best friend peering out the window. The light grazed her face perfectly, but there was no reaction, no feeling. Just a blank look. Then I heard her say, "oh, look there is Matt." With a little squeal, "oh, he looks so good." There it was. She lit up, a smile on her face and a dazed look that told me she was thinking about him. I snapped my shutter and caught a moment that I think told the whole story. Why was she getting married? Look at the photo. Does she love him? Look at the photo. How did the day unfold...was it exciting? Look at the photo. I love these moments. As a photographer I spend hours looking for moments like these. If I don't find them then I fail. When I do...I feel like I have accomplished so much.
