The art world is a crazy place full of such creative people that most of them are just too brilliant to ignore. I am an avid photo collector and have tons of folders of pictures that I have picked up here and there. I have been doing it for years. I get all juiced when I return to the folders and find the same treasures as I did when I first hunted them down. Some photographers refuse to look at other photographer's pictures with the assumption that it will taint their own unique style. But, I definitely think that a style is built upon years of photos that we HAVE viewed. It's important to be influenced and to be quite honest...if my style was always the same I would be bored to death. I hope that we are always pushing the envelope and challenging ourselves. There, that's how I feel.
Anyway, with that in mind I would love to start a new series of all the pictures that touch me, challenge me, or just changed the way I think about the way I photograph the world around me. I am going to try and do this every week so come back and check it out. I would love to know how you feel about them too.
This photo was taken by Brandon Wright of Wright photography. He photographs on 35mm medium format film which is incredible in the first place. Most photographers have ditched the film world because it's so expensive and for the shear idea that if you make a mistake...there is no delete and try again. So yes he is talented. Since I started with 35mm I would love to get out my old camera and start tinkering around with it. I am so curious about this vintage art.
I love any sort of shot that involves the sun lighting up someones hair, or through a kiss, or casts a warm glow. Maybe it's an obsession, but I truly do love it. I also love that you can see their face so you still experience the moment. Most shots like this have the faces washed out or have a glare covering spots. I would love to try this same shot and see what I can get.
Plus, her curls are so stinking cute. My eye keeps traveling back to them. Beautiful shot!
Here is one of our latest images that kind of had a similar idea.
