Some of my fondest memories as a child was bedtime believe it or not. Sounds like a parents dream, but don't let it fool you. I was actually quite difficult. But, the reason I loved that time was for story time. The books we read would transport me from my small bed to a place of excitement. Ever since I collected children's books. I have tons of them and often find that I connect characters in my books with people that I know. For example I am like the boy in Where The Wild Things Are. My unrelenting creative self tends to travel to far away lands dreaming of adventures. Eddie is more like The Giving Tree. Have you ever read that book. Shel Silverstein is an absolute genius. It's about the this gentle apple tree that loves this little boy with all his heart. He shares his apples, his shade, his branches for swinging and eventually the stump of himself to be with the boy as he grows into old age.
I was lying in bed this morning going over my to do list as though I was giving my brain for assignments for the day. I was thinking about writing a blog about Eddie. He is my rock through everything in my life and I know that I don't tell him enough. I think my girlfriend Shelley said it best, "when you get married you truly do become one. When my husband is gone it's as though I can't think or function without the other half." That's the beauty of marriage. Our line of work is not for everyone. You have to love what you do. Actually you have to be down right passionately obsessed with it. Luckily I found a man who is just that insane. He is the one who pushes through 14 hour work days, wants to be uncommonly generous, will to the tedious tasks and never say a word. He is the foundation of our business and our marriage. I have always been that child who never grew up and loves to travel through dream lands imagining what I can conquer next. I have all the brains to start, manage and be successful with my endeavors, but I love to travel and can move on quickly. Eddie not only keeps things constant, but nudges me to not forget the important.
I think most importantly he supports my dreams. Dreaming is what helps me wake up everyday. If there was nothing to dream about my mind would be lost. Eddie supports that, encourages and rolls along ready to be the foundation of a new idea.
When you find your rock you know it. There is a peace that over comes you as though you no longer have to worry about yourself. Much like the giving tree Eddie shares his apples with me when I am hungry. He shares his branches with me when I want I want to be a wild beast. He gives me shade when I have had a tough day in the sun. And when he gets cut down and nothing else to give, but a stump for sitting. He will allow me to sit down and use him to rest my old tired bones. I pray everyday that he will be with me in old age to be my foundation.
Thank you love!!! I wouldn't be me without you!
If you haven't read one of Shel Silverstein's books then you need to. The stories and illustrations are out of this world!!
Where the Wild Things Are was originally a children's book which has been made into a move. Read the book. I hear the movie is nothing like it.
